"Trinity" is not a real new release from My Dying Bride
since it is a comprehensive collection of tracks earlier released as demos and
EP's. Even if this is material from the earlier years of the band´s history
the music is astonishingly great. Of course the sound quality is not perfect
and the music is not as clean and sharp as on the latest albums but the unique
My Dying Bride sound is here as well, changing from painfully slow tunes that
makes you want to tear out your heart to fast aggressive guitar riffing. All
the time it is melodic and groovy and often accompanied by sad violin tunes
from the classically trained Martin Powell, who is now a member of Cradle of
Filth. It is a shame that Martin is no longer part of the band but they have
shown that they were able to compensate his loss on their own with their
latest release. Musically this album is very gloomy and emotional like the MDB
albums usually are. The vocals are very raw growling since this is the first
material from the band. For each album the vocals have become sharper and
cleaner, at least so far. On this album you can also find the song that was
chosen as the best My Dying Bride song ever in the year 2000 by the visitors
on their official website namely "The Crown Of Sympathy". This is a slow and
very sad song and the only one on this recording where Aaron uses clean raspy
vocals. This is an album that should be in the record collection of every
metal fan since it marks the birth of the English doom sound (and it´s a great
album as well).
