My Dying Bride is and have always been
the No 1 doom metal band in the world and even though they have released a
little too many mini albums and compilations in their long and productive
career for my taste they are still one of my absolute favorite bands. Now
Peaceville have decided to release the very first live album of the band and
no matter how much I generally hate live albums I will judge this one only by
the music and nothing else. I never pictured My Dying Bride as a live band and
have never had the pleasure of witnessing one of their shows but I was amazed
when I heard how good the opening track "She Is The Dark" could sound live.
It isn't exactly better than the original album version but I never thought
they could recreate that unique atmosphere on stage. This is the reason why I
find My Dying Bride to be a much more interesting band than for example
Anathema or Paradise Lost. My Dying Bride has a wonderful atmosphere,
beautiful melodies and passionate vocals, something that I don't find as
strong in the music of the aforementioned bands. This live recording has no
flaws and I think all fans of the band will be satisfied with the result. The
recording took place on March 1st, 2001, when the band played at the 013 Club
in Tilburg, Holland. I am not sure about the real track listing of the album
since my promo disc doesn't follow the listing on the sleeve... The cover art
looks wonderful for almost the first time in the band's career
:-)
