My Ruin is one of the latest signings on Century Media but they have already released several albums through the Snapper label. I must say that people who claim that metal fans or metal labels do not follow trends are very naive. When thrash metal was popular every label wanted to sign those bands, when power metal made its debut on the scene just the same and now we have gothic metal and metalcore bands here and there. My Ruin is not just any metalcore band, they have a lot to offer musically with intricate song structures and heavy metal riffing as a contrast to the hardcore aggression. In short, they are a mature band capable of producing quality music. That is what major labels are looking for these days and unfortunately I feel like originality often falls behind. Another thing that separates My Ruin from most other bands in the genre is that it is built around three female members and one male guitarist. Needless to say it is front woman Tairrie B. and guitarist Mick Murphy who are the most central individuals within the band. Without any of them I think My Ruin would be only the ruin. He is important when it comes to creating the music and she is essential as a charismatic front person with a powerful voice. Musically more advanced than other bands in their genre, My Ruin's intense mixture of powergroove riffing, hardcore vocals and spoken word should appeal not only to metalcore fans. A very even and harmonic recording with no tracks sticking out from the rest. Nothing new but good quality metal.
