REVIEW: Myriads - Introspection Napalm Records, 2002
9/10
Myriads - Introspection - cover art One of the beauties of Gothic music is, besides its rich symphonic soundscapes, that only in this musical realm could you find united in a very aesthetic and harmonic way, the devil and an angel singing together. With this new release, Myriads proved to the world that they are a very talented band and the future looks promising for them. They have a Tristanian style with a heavier guitar sound. "Enigmatic Colours Of The Night" introduces you into their Gothic world with a wealthy mixture of vocal expressions on muscled rhythmics without forgetting the less imposing but good piano partitions. Mona has a very nice voice and on the dark side of the moon, Alexander sings a convincing death and clean vocals too. Hard to believe it's the same guy because he has a gentle mid-tone voice. Like many of the songs, this one last nearly ten minutes. More meat for your musical appetite. Well, what about the symphonic soundscapes? "Inside" and "The Sanctum Of My Soul" will conquer you. The first one is a complete medieval feast including piano, cello, strings and choirs. A remarkable female vocalist will touch your heart. The second one is actually an extension of "Inside" and brings out all the great Gothic elements outside to show you how talented these musicians are. Amazing compositions let me tell you. I should point out that the strings arrangements were composed by the singers showing a versatile angel and demon duo! What else to look for? A fifteen minutes song! Yes and I simply loved it! "Portal To The Mind" ( they really have cool titles) is made of strong doom guitar, intricate musical phrases, gracefully knitted by calmer interludes of acoustic guitar and piano. All this beautifully sung by an ever amazing diva who at times has a siren voice and surprises us by a much lower and sensual tonality. There's a progressive flavor to this piece that makes it memorable. Hopefully you too will dive into their universe and discover an idyllic relationship between an angelic sonic princess and a good devil.
