REVIEW: Myrkskog - Deathmachine Candlelight Records, 2000
9.5/10
Myrkskog - Deathmachine - cover art This is Myrkskog's first full-length, and what a solid album it is! For those of you who never heard them, they are a unique Norwegian black / death metal band. Samoth from Emperor describes them as "extreme metal", a tag that suits the band very well methinks. Nowadays, they are a pure death metal band, but the black metal influences could still be heard on their first release. The music on this album is filled with light-speed blast beats courtesy of Sechtdamon (ex-Odium, also replacement vocalist/bassist in Zyklon for Limbonic Art's Daemon), killer minor key harmonized riffs and mid-range vocals filled with hate. There are also some keyboard passages at some places on the album, but they are just there to enhance the melody and feeling of the riffs, so don't look for elaborated keyboard parts there.
