REVIEW: Myrkskog - Superior Massacre Candlelight Records, 2002
8/10
Myrkskog - Superior Massacre - cover art If you have followed the Norwegian metal scene lately you have probably come across Myrkskog who have now finished the follow-up to their highly acclaimed debut album "Deathmachine". If you combine the darkness and brutality of Deicide with the intensity of Emperor then you know at least a little of what you have to expect from this band. These eight tracks (+ intro / outro) will not leave you without a soul ripped and torn. They are relentless, violent and display a high level of expertise and sense of structure that is something that we are used to hear from the leading extreme metal bands of Norway. Myrkskog are definitely good enough to compete with the leading American bands such as Deicide and Nile and I'm glad to see that the Norwegian metal scene is becoming more diverse and not solely relies on old black metal traditions. Recommended to all fans of technical and brutal death metal and especially those of you who enjoyed their first album.
