REVIEW: Mystic Prophecy - Never Ending Nuclear Blast, 2004
8/10
Mystic Prophecy - Never Ending - cover art The power metal band Mystic Prophecy was created in the year 2000 by the same members who are still together - vocalist Roberto Dimitri Liapakis and bassist Martin Albrecht from Valley's Eve, Swedish drummer Dennis Ekdahl (Raise Hell etc.) and the Greek guitar virtuoso Gus G. who is perhaps the driving force behind the band's success. "Never Ending" has nothing that the two previous releases from the band did not have, nor does it lack anything that they did have. In other words, if you enjoyed their previous material you will not be disappointed and vice versa. The main problem the band has right now which is keeping them from reaching even further is that they don't seem to have a songwriter genious among its members. They are a very good band but find themselves standing still in the same place right now in my opinion. There are primarily two things that make Mystic Prophecy stand out from most other power metal bands. First of all they sometimes incorporate slightly more aggressive riffing with light death / thrash metal tendencies and second the guitar solos of Gus G. are more natural and tasteful than what is usually to spot in power metal songs. If you are tired of upbeat, happy power metal á la Hammerfall then Mystic Prophecy is here to save you from your misery.
