Nachtfalke was formed by a man going
under the alias of Occulta Mors (Moonblood) and as far as I understand this is
more or less a solo project of his. The band has released one split EP
together with a band called Surturs Lohe and one split LP with Luror, both in
the year of 2000, but now it is time for the first full-length album. He
really wanted to show off his music with his actual debut album since it
contains close to 80 minutes of music. If this would have been 80 minutes of
good music then I wouldn't have anything to complain about but unfortunately
that is not the case. This is more or less a tribute album to the originators
of Nordic black metal such as Darkthrone and Bathory and even though the sound
quality is a lot better than what it was in the early days they have not quite
managed to re-create the unique atmosphere that both these bands became known
for. The music is nevertheless still very epic and the atmosphere resembles
Bathory the most with the riffs and the screams being more Darkthrone-ish in
nature. The thing I appreciate most about this band is the folk music
influences such as the beautiful opening melody of "War In Asgard". Almost
every single song on this album has its good moments but I think they should
have made it a little shorter to keep an overall higher quality of the music.
Only meant for hardcore fans of Darkthrone and / or earlier Bathory. Stand-out
tracks: "War In Asgard", "Man Of Iron" (Bathory
cover).
