REVIEW: Naildown - Dreamcrusher Spinefarm Records, 2007
6.5/10
Naildown - Dreamcrusher - cover art It did not take long for Finland's Naildown to secure a contract for the release of their Spinefarm debut "World Domination" in 2005. Two years later they are ready to show the world that they are not just a one album wonder. "Dreamcrusher" does not exactly stray very far from their previous sound but they have made at least a slight change of their musical direction, replacing some of their technical showoffs with more light-hearted melodies. Overall I would say that "Dreamcrusher" is more diverse and complete than their debut but whether I like it more is hard to tell. What I can tell is that frontman Daniel Freyberg have improved his clean vocals a great deal and keyboardist Jarmo Puikkonen provides a very inriguing atmosphere throughout the entire album. While most melodic death metal bands tend to deliver energy and intensity I would say that Naildown feels more laidback and relaxed. This is also their problem. They do have their moments and the members are no doubt technically skilled but unfortunately few of the songs on the album are memorable. A decent melodeath album though.
