REVIEW: Napalm - Goatwar Suicide (EP) Self-financed, 2001
3.5/10
Napalm - Goatwar Suicide (EP) - cover art Napalm is a French black metal band consisting of only two members going under the names NecroBlackBaron and Christormentor. Just like their names this self-produced demo tape contains every possible black metal cliché but it is still enjoyable at times. The main problem with this release is that the sound quality is really lousy. I mean what I say because compared to the early Darkthrone releases the production of Darkthrone would seem perfect and clear as crystal ice (is there any other kind of ice...?). They have however managed to capture some of the elements that make Darkthrone raw and cozy in some mysterious way. Unfortunately the negative aspects of this demo weigh heavier than the positive ones. If the production had been made properly and at least in Darkthrone standard I might have had a different opinion but now I find it real hard to enjoy the real music buried beneath the fuzzy noise. These guys many not be the best musicians in the world but I am pretty confident that they can achieve something a lot better than this if they just put their mind to it. The music is however not lousy, just the sound quality. They might want to keep their music obscure and occult but if so, why not make it listenable at least?
