The Code is Red. . . Long Live the Code is the latest release from the fathers of grind. With every new release Napalm Death only gets stronger. Along with guest vocals from Hatebreed’s Jamey Jasta, Jello Biafra (Dead Kennedy’s), and Jeff Walker (Carcass), Napalm Death blasts the hardcore grind with an aggression that hasn’t been as present since Enemy of the Music Business. This album is unrelenting while still being extremely catchy. Barney’s vocals are ferocious. Mitch Harris is a mad genius with the six strings. Even with the departure of Jesse Pintado, but you can’t fucking tell. If anything the band is more focused now, and tighter than ever. Fans of the old school grindcore that Napalm Death delivered will be thrilled with this album. It has a straight ahead hardcore punk feel, while still being extremely heavy. Danny’s blast beats sound better than ever!! Take note during the track “The Great and the Good”. The production work on the Code is Red. . . . Sounds brilliant. Only thing that one is left to wonder is the guest vocals, do they compliment the music, and are they in the proper places??
Most people will hate the fact that Jaime Jasta has lent his voice for this, but worry not!! Jamey’s hardcore vocal delivery rages along, and lends well with Barney’s monstrous roars. As for Jello Biafra, well I’ve never been a fan of his voice, but he does a wicked performance on “The Great and The Good”. One of the best tracks on the album. His style is weird, it’s strange, but it’s great to hear along with Napalm Death’s manic grind. He adds a new dimension to Napalm’s sound. Jeff Walker is in fine form as always, and he delivers another amazing performance here. To finish the album off is a Swans-esque song “Morale”. A slow dark song with plenty of emotion, and Barney’s vocals are layered perfectly to give an almost eerie atmosphere, then "Our Pain Is Their Power" trails Morale off. A perfect end to a perfect album. This may be Napalm Death’s best release to date, but that’ll be for you to decide. Fucking 10/10!!
