REVIEW: Necare - Ruin Firebox Records, 2004
8.5/10
Necare - Ruin - cover art This is a great example of a fresh, new Doom Metal outfit playing in best manner of British Doom Metal. Except for the fact that Necare (read: Neh-ka-reh, latin for killing with malice aforethought) is from the US. Really haven’t expected that. "Ruin" is their debut album which lasts slightly over one hour and delivers some great crushing doom sadness and painful, intelligent lyrics. There are nine songs in total here and for me each one is very good. Perhaps the best is the title track. The songs are very well built, there is no fall in intensity, nor your attention will be somewhere else, thanx to boring parts. All is combined in a very mature way. Although the band consists only of two members, the album features some additional instruments like violin, keyboards, plus standard ones like guitars and drums. That’s thanks to multitasking done by band members in studio and guest musicians. All is combined greatly, instruments fit each other in the best way, and so the music is colorful and powerful. Basically, the songs have very strong guitars laid on standard rhythm section and flawed with keys and violin. Vocals are also strong, sad and goes great with music and lyrics. A few riffs here and there remind a little of MDB, but I guess that should be overlooked. I also liked the cover artwork on this promo CD, I believe that on the actual CD there is even more of it and also the lyrics are intelligent, and provide additional joy with music. Get this great sounding debut if you have at least one doom metal album in your collection.
