REVIEW: Necrodeath - Black As Pitch Scarlet Records, 2001
9/10
Necrodeath - Black As Pitch - cover art When bands like Slayer, Kreator, Celtic Frost and Bathory were creating a whole new world of extreme metal the Italian band Necrodeath also began to rise. After two albums in 1987 and 1989 and amazing press they broke up and it wasn't until 1999 that the original founders reformed the legendary band. Now they are back again with their fourth full-length album entitled "Black As Pitch" which is one of their most violent and aggressive releases ever. This is a band who just doesn't care about the on-going trends but continues to create some of the best extreme metal there is. You can still here the evident thrash metal influences but you might just as well call them a death/black metal band. No musical label suits them perfectly, they are simply the definition of pure extreme metal. What makes the new album so much better is the almost perfect production which comes with the recording process at Sweden's famous Studio Underground. If you are into extreme metal you just can't miss out on this release which is one of the highlights of the year.
