REVIEW: Necrology - Malignancy Defined Great White North Records, 2001
5.5/10
Necrology - Malignancy Defined - cover art This is the first release I´ve ever heard from GWN Records and to tell you the truth the music was of a higher quality than what I first had expected. Just like the label Necroloty is of Dutch origin but their main influences can be found on the other sida of the Atlantic. Not to be mean or anything I would like to say that Necrology sounds very much like Morbid Angel with two obvious differences: they are first of all a little faster paced and secondly the growling vocals are as ultra-guttural as they could possibly get. The vocals are also the weakness of the band since they are sometimes barely heard and my ears don´t seem to enjoy them very much. Other than that the music is aggressive but still melodic death/grind and suited for fans of the genre. Necrology is a fairly traditional band but they still seem to be talented musicians. An average Morbid Angel type release but it is still good music. The album was recorded, mixed and mastered by Erik De Boer and Harry Wijering at Harrow Recording Studio in Losser, Holland.
