When you mention European thrash metal everyone will instantly mention the mighty threefold Sodom, Kreator and Destruction who are still going strong and are almost even more popular today when the interest for real metal has arisen again. There were however a few other noteworthy bands fighting for attention in that era and one of them is Necronomicon. The band formed in 1983 and released their self-titled debut album in 1986 for Camel manager Geoff Jukes's label Gama Records. The rebirth of metal have brought these veterans together again and after a couple of demo recordings, Remedy Records were willing to release their new album. "Construction Of Evil" is everything that modern metal is not - it is simple and straight-forward, it is free from synths and devoid of other electronic elements. It is a refreshing breath from the past dressed in a clear and powerful production of today. Old-school thrash performed very well.
Necronomicon have written an impressive retro album with several strong and memorable songs. "Construction Of Evil" is perhaps not quite as impressive as the latest offerings from Kreator but they give them a fair competition. This is music that should be experienced live though in order to truely capture the energy that lives within. If you are a big fan of the old German thrash metal scene you should definitely check out this album, you are not likely to be disappointed by it. Necronomicon know where they stand and do not let trends touch them the slightest bit.
