REVIEW: Nehëmah - Light Of A Dead Star Oaken Shield, 2002
6.5/10
Nehëmah - Light Of A Dead Star - cover art According to the promo sheet Nehëmah started out as a project on October 31st, 1992 (hmm...) by a man calling himself Corven. After having recorded a demo in 1995 the band was temporarily put on ice but in the autumn of 2000 Nehëmah returned with the ambition to show the world what pure black metal was meant to be like. The debut album is released by the Adipocere sublabel Oaken Shield and just like their label the band is from France. The French metal scene has gathered momentum during the last five or so years and today there are quality bands within every genre. Nehëmah perform grim, harsh, epic black metal delivered with a concept built on suicide, nightmares and the darker elements of life. They also want to appeal to all black metal girls of this world by paying homage to the female goddesses and entities of the night. Nehëmah is as you may know one of the names of Lilith, THE female goddess of them all in the world of metal. If the mid-paced epic black metal of Darkthrone, old Immortal or Judas Iscariot is what you let spin in your stereo then you might very well want to check out this French band. The production is very good but the music still sounds cold, raw and primal. Stand-out tracks: "Nehëmah In Vulva Infernum".
