The Swiss scene is not famous in the Metal community, but these days I am noticing more and more new bands from this country. That is very good; eventually there will be no white areas on the Metal World Map. "The Perversion of Humanity" is the debut full length from Nekropolis. When I first listened to the album I thought they are Hypocrisy fans from "Abducted" and later era, but this impression vanished after more careful listening. The style they utilize is centered in Death Metal, but knows to wander around Thrash, Black, Nu (?) and maybe some more scenes, like hardcore. Each one of the 13 songs has some fine moments and interesting riffs, but in overall, and that goes for the entire album, I got the impression that the band is still searching for their own, unique way of playing extreme music. Styles are changing throughout the songs, so is tempo and intensity. The band uses simple thrash riffs with lots of keyboards or samples in the background, sometimes it’s intriguing and sometimes it doesn’t fit. Besides this, there are also two vocals, one more black-ish and the other growling that are combined in songs. It would be good if they could decide which style they love more, Death/Black or Nu and hardcore. Leaving it like this might be a good solution for an American band, but in Europe standards are higher. Apples and oranges just don’t mix together. Still, I think there’s some more potential here that might surface in future releases.
