REVIEW: Neuraxis - Trilateral Progression Willowtip Records, 2005
8.5/10
Neuraxis - Trilateral Progression - cover art Here is yet another fantastic release from the fine folks at Willowtip Records. I tip my cap to label honcho Jason Tipton: Kudos, my good man. As to this release, Neuraxis have released a killer slab of Death Metal with Trilateral Progression. These proponents of the so-called Canadian hypergrind are more than a one trick pony. Grinding guitars go with soulful leads, pummeling drums, and ultra guttural vocals. The bass is mostly transparent, but not unlike Suffocation occasionally shines through. It should be no secret that the riff is the centerpiece of any song, and Neuraxis definitely know how to compose songs that will hold listeners' interest. The press release advises that this record "successfully balances a majestic sense of melody with go-for-the-throat aggression." This is definitely aggressive music with tons of headbanging appeal. Try on "Thought Adjuster" to see what I mean and watch out for the massive change-up pitch on "Chamber of Guardians." Willowtip has yet to disappoint me as a reviewer, and more importantly as a fan. That label and this release are quality with a capital Q. Nasum may be gone (rest in piece Mieszko) but Neuraxis might well be able to assume the mantle.
