REVIEW: Neurotica - Neurotica Koch Records, 2002
7/10
Neurotica - Neurotica - cover art When the psychedelic death metal band Atheist called it quits in late 1993 Kelly Shaefer was ready for something radically different. Together with Shawn Bowen the Florida inhabitant formed the new band Neurotica in 1995 and later on Jason West, the former Atheist drummer, also joined. They were discovered by Brian Johnson of AC/DC who helped them produce their debut album "Seed" which was released in 1998. Now they are back with their self-titled sophomore album that is being released by Koch Records in collaboration with Smackdown! Records, a label recently formed by the World Wrestling Federation. This album is very similar in style with the previous one with heavy rock riffs and powerful raspy vocals. Neurotica are not really something out of the ordinary but they are very good at what they are doing. These guys have many years of musical experience in the heavy school and it is not hard to tell when listening to these eleven tracks. It is heavy, it is tight and there are no flaws to be found without a looking glass. Neurotica have made it big in the US and if you are into modern heavy rock you will not be disappointed with this album. Unfortunately it tends to get a little boring at times just like most other bands of the genre. Stand-out tracks: "All My Friends Crush You", "A Lot Of The Same".
