REVIEW: Nevermore - In Memory - Reissue Century Media, 2006
8/10
Nevermore - In Memory - Reissue - cover art Continuing to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the once fledgeling Century Media Records, one of their more important bands is offering reissues. "Nevermore have opened their vault unveiling previously unreleased material to be included as bonus content for the... reissues of their three early releases." Originally an EP, In Memory has been remastered with a revised layout and artwork. The current version includes liner notes by vocalist Warrel Dane and metal writer de reigeur Martin Popoff. More Nevermore is always a good thing, right? The primary point of interest for fans of the band are the exclusive demo tracks available on the reissue, showing the sound of things to come on the excellent followup, The Politics of Ecstasy. Everything you like -- or hate -- about the band is presented here, though not as killer as it would ultimately become. That Pat O'Brien (now of Cannibal Corpse) played on this and TPOE speaks to the brutality on display and serves to juxtapose the clean tones with the crushing riffer madness. The bass guitar is massive on this record, though the reissued art is curiously pixelated. Necessary only for completists.
