No matter what everybody says thrash metal is by no means
dead and exterminated from this earth. There are still lots of talents all
over the world waiting to be discovered by nobody else but you. The German
band Night In Gales is one of these talents and even though this is their
fourth album everyone is probably not familiar with them or their music.
Previously they were part of the Nuclear Blast deathsquad but they have now
left for Massacre Records. Night In Gales is not a death or thrash metal
stereotype since they have developed a very modern and distinct style that
separates them from the lot. With both clean rock-'n-roll-ish vocals and
brutal death metal growling they have woven together a most interesting web
with gossamer support of heavy rhythms and guitar melodies á la At The Gates.
Without sounding like any other known or unkown band (how I know about that?
no idea...) they deliver one of the best albums from the crossing border
between thrash and death metal so far this year. You might want to complain
about the album being a bit short though, 35 minutes is not that long really.
I will now cheat a little by stealing a few words from the Massacre Records
promo sheet. This album will guarantee you multiple eargasms and if it doesn´t
make you swing you´re probably either deaf or dead or both. This time they are
actually right in their statements because Night In Gales delivers a great
album worthy of being released in the year 2001. It was produced by Harris
Johns (Sodom, Kreator, Tankard). A bit stupid of Nuclear Blast to give up a
band like this but I don´t really know what happened so I should perhaps keep
my mouth shut (or my hands tied since I´m writing
this...).
