REVIEW: Ninnghizhidda - Demigod Displeased Records, 2002
5/10
Ninnghizhidda - Demigod - cover art Somehow the name of this band has haunted me for some years, as it is for me one of the most unspeakable bandnames ever encountered. Suppose that's not a new thing with black metal bands, but still.. Anyway, no offence for their music for that matter! The band (I refuse hereby to say their name again) has been around since '97, and did their first fullength the year after in "Blasphemy" (Invasion Records). 4 years it has then taken them to obtain a new deal and to fulfill their new album "Demigod", but I wonder if it has been worth the wait. For me "Demigod" arrives as an album that would probably be okey 3 years ago, while now it dumps down in the heap of albums that are listened to and then forgotten. Not because the band is a waste, but their way of symphonic black metal (a little Dimmu Borgir here and there ?) doesn't catch me. Some melodies are working in a supposed manner, but it just doesn't measure up with the link of melodies and non-melodic parts. It is not effective enough if you follow what I am saying, becoming a tad to stereotyped. Something good lives in these Germans I am sure of, but they need to reinvent and to create more than with this 2nd album...
