REVIEW: Node - Sweatshops Scarlet Records, 2002
7/10
Node - Sweatshops - cover art Italy is quickly growing up to become one of the leading metal nations of Europe and besides the large number of metal labels in the country there are also some very good bands making their way through the international metal community such as this one called Node (not to be mixed up with Nude on the same label...). Node was formed in 1994 by Gary D'Eramo and Steve Minelli (ex-Death SS, session guitarist for Lacuna Coil) and they have so far released two mini albums and one full-length (before this one that is). This is one very intense album that proves that Italian bands are able to do more than play epic power metal. Node actually sounds like a modern, thicker version of At The Gates although they will probably never reach the perfection of "Slaughter Of The Soul". Node do perhaps not bring us anything new but they are still one of the best Italian bands at the moment, at least on the more extreme side and I hope they will continue to develop in the future. The two opening tracks of this album are top notch death / thrash metal with very intense riffing and powerful vocals but the rest of the album doesn't quite live up to the expectations you have after having listened to then. A good solid release but no masterpiece.
