REVIEW: Noir - Solve Et Coagula (demo tape) Self-financed, 2001
6/10
Noir - Solve Et Coagula (demo tape) - cover art Noir is a one-man project by a man who calls himself Nidh and was formed in late October 2000. This is the second demo from him and according to himself the material on this one is more varied and developed than on the first one. The music of Noir is hard to desribe since it varies from atmospheric calm music to raw black metal. There are some very nice melodies displayed on this demo too, especially on the beautiful opening track "Bereavement". The vocals are also very varied, ranging from warm melancholic wailing to raw black screeches. Even though there is only demo quality on this tape (still a pretty good sound) it stands clear that Nidh is a very skilled musicians with the ambition to create music that touches the soul. The first band that comes to mind when listening to these very melodic tunes of darkness is the Swedish legends of Dissection although Noir isn't as fully developed yet. Nidh has potential to reach further though and I hope he doesn't give up because he is a talented musician, at least it seems so to me after listening to this demo. Just continue in the spirit of "Bereavement" and you will hopefully reach far.
