REVIEW: Nomenmortis - The Day Youll Lose Your Head Dreamfog Musick, 2002
7.5/10
Nomenmortis - The Day Youll Lose Your Head - cover art I'd actually only recently heard these purveyors of Slovakian death metal for the first time, and welcomed the opportunity to be destroyed for a second time with this new album. It's started off deceptively, with a very relaxed instrumental intro leading into a spasm of violent metal. "Shunning Sweetness of Revenge" has some tasty leads supplied by now former guitarist Martin Oravec, who has since been replaced by Adam, according to the liner notes. Some of the more chaotic parts of "Infected Bastard Planet" reminded me of Colombians Internal Suffering, and, like their latest album, things here slipped into tedium without a standout section after some time. This standout came in the form of a riff, in the song "Mitgefangen Mitgehangen", which revitalized my receptivity to the album. "Tedd Deireadh" contains ample guitar heroics, with some dark shadows adding an evil vibe to it. The 10 songs are topped off with a Kataklysm cover from their chaotic Sylvain Houde days, which I'd wager Nomenmortis were heavily influenced by, as their music also takes some disjointed twists and turns in its bloody path forwards. Singer Martin Lukac seems to have a lot to say, judging by the deep and many lyrics. The future looks bright for Nomenmortis. FAVORITE TRACKS: Mitgefangen Mitgehangen, Tedd Deireadh.
