REVIEW: Nordream - Memories Progression Valiant Music, 2000
6.5/10
Nordream - Memories Progression - cover art The Russian metal scene has not been able to gain a lot of attention in Western media so far but it does have a lot to offer. The best band from Russia is in my opinion Rakoth but Nordream is not bad at all either. Their music is really hard to describe but it´s some kind of avantgarde melodic heavy metal with strong progressive influences. This is a very varied album and sometimes it almost sounds a little like a mix between Rakoth and Skyclad. What I like best about Nordream is the beautiful piano melodies but unfortunately they are sometimes a little too simple to be interesting. The first track also has one of the nicest intros I´ve heard in a long while from a metal band. Except for these elements there are also a lot of technical and heavy guitar riffs to be enjoyed on the album. It has got a few weak spots though and one of them is the clean vocals that doesn´t really enhance the music in any way. They are just too weak for a metal album. However, this is a very interesting band and it might be worth checking them out if you´re tired of hearing the same old music day in and day out.
