REVIEW: Norther - Death Unlimited Spinefarm Records, 2004
8.5/10
Norther - Death Unlimited - cover art "Death Unlimited" is the third album released by the Finnish Power/Death metal band Norther. When their debut album, "Dreams of Endless War", was released they were labelled as a "talentless Children of Bodom ripoff", but that's not true. Norther has their own sound. While their debut had some black metal influences, their second album, "Mirror of Madness", had a more melodic death metal attitude, with less keyboards and melodies. This third album is completely different. The sound is heavier, there are even less melodies but the quality remains. The lyrics are great, as usual, and the vocals of Petri are awesome. In my opinion he is the best vocalist in this genre (yeah, better than Alexi). The guitars are heavier and less melodic as I said before but there are some great riffs ("Going Nowhere" for example) and the solos are very good. The keyboard is now providing more atmosphere into the sound instead of melodies. The rhythm section is very good, the bass is very audible and the drums are very good too. Norther proved once again that they're one of the best Finnish bands, along with Children of Bodom, Kiuas and Mors Principium Est. Stand-out tracks: "Going Nowhere", "Day of Redemption", "Nothing". Pros: Song-structure; Great vocals; Excellent lyrics; Guitar & Keys solos Cons: Some guitar riffs
