REVIEW: Nostradamus 0014 - Nostradamus 0014 Self-financed, 2004
5/10
Nostradamus 0014 - Nostradamus 0014 - cover art The French band Nostradamus has done something remarkable. Their demo 0014 is mixed by Kurt Ballau (guitarist from Converge) and that is not something a lot of bands can say. The music has a violent sound, combining metal with hardcore and jazz, and the quintet’s technical qualities are excellent. The title track is a rollercoaster with unexpected rhythm changes and in the following track the experiment continues. This is good musicians and they manage to find some originality in the rhythms and riffs, still it is impossible not to associate this kind of music with The Dillinger Escape Plan and Converge. I would probably like this album better if it weren’t for the singers voice. It is monotonous and sounds most of all like a gorilla with tonsillitis. Still “0014” has a lot of qualities and this band will probably release really good records in the future.
