REVIEW: November's Doom - The Knowing Dark Symphonies, 2000
7/10
November's Doom - The Knowing - cover art Novembers Doom has been proclaimed as the American answer to the British forefathers of doom metal (Paradise Lost, My Dying Bride and Anathema) and have been given a lot of attention in the metal press during the last couple of years. The bands from Dark Symphonies are usually very difficult to get into but this is one of their bands whose music I have had the pleasure of being able to absorb fully, or at least I´m under that impression. Sorry guys (and girl) but you´re not quite capable of competing with the big three, at least not yet. That doesn´t mean that Novembers Doom is a lousy band though. They still have the capacity of producing very atmospheric and emotional music designed to touch the inner core of your soul which is the trademark of Dark Symphonies as I see it. The music is not very fast nor technical but somehow a sad and melancholic feeling is produced. Despair, grief, passion and other strong emotions are the rulers of this album and songs like "Silent Tomorrow" and "Last God" makes the name Novembers Doom stick to your mind for at least a couple of months. One final warning though for those not familiar with the Dark Symphonies catalogue: their releases are definitely not easy-listened and if you´re faint-hearted don´t try this one.
