REVIEW: Number One Son - Majority Of One Visible Noise, 2001
7/10
Number One Son - Majority Of One - cover art Number One Son is a Liverpool, UK, based band that has received a lot of attention from Kerrang! Magazine lately. This is their debut album which is being released by the upcoming British label Visible Noise. The band has apparently been compared to Korn but to me they sound more like a mix of Rage Against The Machine, Deftones and Linkin Park. We are dealing with nu-metal here as you probably have come to understand by now and even though Number One Son are rather stereotypical and doesn't bring us anything new they are doing their thing very well. They reside on the more aggressive side of the nu-metal scene and there are not that many softer moments on this album. Their strongest element is no doubt the vocals which are great throughout most of the songs. The music of this album is generally heavy and aggressive but it is also very melancholic which has become some kind of a trademark for the modern rock / metal scene. Are the children of today really that sad or is it just trendy to be sad these days? A very professional, mature and solid debut album but it lacks originality and that is very important in the music business today. The first three or four tracks are the best, then it fades a little towards the end. Obviously it takes more to make an impression on me than it does Kerrang!...
