REVIEW: Obliterate - The Feelings Erebos Productions, 2000
7/10
Obliterate - The Feelings - cover art Obliterate is a band from Slovakia that formed in 1992 but it wasn't until the year 2000 that the native label Erebos Productions released this their debut album. These ten tracks are all pretty similar in style and it is a very coherent album with none of the tracks sticking out that much. It is rather easy to notice that the band members are big fans of bands such as Carcass, Napalm Death and Cannibal Corpse because there are plenty of elements from all those bands to find on this album. There is also a fair deal of thrashier riffs that remind me a little of early Testament. All of this together creates a nice mid-paced churning drive that carries the listener from beginning to end. This doesn't mean that Obliterate is a band made up of people who are only out there to copy what has already been done though. It's just that when playing this kind of music it is not very easy to break new ground or be experimentive because then you will easily lose track completely. Obliterate have made a solid debut album that will surely be appreciated by fans of the bands mentioned above. The songs are well crafted, the production is very good indeed and even though Obliterate haven't accomplished anything unique at all this album is not difficult to enjoy. Those of you who know anything about brutal death / grind from Slovakia probably realize what I'm talking about...
