REVIEW: Obliveon - Greatest Pits Great White North Records, 2002
7/10
Obliveon - Greatest Pits - cover art Obliveon is one of a dozen or so thrash bands out of Quebec who have made an impact thus far. With producer extraordinaire Pierre Remillard in their ranks, they've created some good albums, and this is a sampler of some of the best tracks on them. A lot of Obliveon reminds me of a less melodic Quo Vadis, while other moments have a hardcore groove to them. "Frosted Avowals" features both intense riffing and drumwork, while "Android Succubus" slips into realms a little too happy for my metal taste. Obliveon then gets the hair going with the old Megadeth -like "Whimsical Uproar", and reinforces it with tracks like "Nemesis". You'll have to speak French to read the liner notes on this CD, and there are some old demo songs and guitar tablature for those of you who have a computer at home. I like that idea. With some extra reasons to buy a greatest hits type of disc, this makes the re-release of some other albums out there look like the cash grab that they really are. "Greatest Pits" is a good incentive for thrash fans to hunt down albums by this cult band.
