REVIEW: Obscuris Romancia - Obscuris Romancia Infernal Chaos, 2003
6/10
Obscuris Romancia - Obscuris Romancia - cover art These 7 tracks are well-presented by clear and thunderous production, with colourful art and packaging. Inside, you'll find symphonic black metal heavily influenced by Cradle of Filth etc. Vocalist Sylvain uses those almost too high vocals with the odd low growl here and there for variety. Personally, I found their slower material to be the best stuff, especially "As the Desire of Evil Is Unsatisfied". Here, Obscuris Romancia seem to capture a more powerful aesthetic and let their music breathe a little before switching things up with transitions that often seemed lackluster. If guitarists Stephane and Frederic could keep things as engaging as the solos on the fading moments if "Cette Fleur" are, then this might grab my attention a little bit more. Most of the lyrics are in their native French language, though they show a good grasp of English, as well, with well-written and thoughtful lyrics.
