REVIEW: Octinomos - Welcome To My Planet Baphomet Records, 1999
7/10
Octinomos - Welcome To My Planet - cover art Apocalyptic one-man black metal is the best description that I can come up with for these 7 songs. The production is fairly treble-heavy, though the guitars are fairly thick. F. Söderlund is the man behind the music, and though I'm sure I'll get an earful for this, the over-abundance of extreme metal bands these days doesn't allow me to remember where I know that name from. Most of the songs are fairly catchy, not to mention long. It can get tedious at times, but for the most part, Octinomos is a great listen. "Divine Terror" and "Genocide Mass" are both graced with some crisp melodies, the second of the 2 also containing some killer harmonies. Though the majority of the songs are paced similarly to "Panzer-Division Marduk", "Atomic Night" has some standout breakdown parts, and "World Pulverized" is slower and quite gloomy. Lyrically, there is a nuclear holocaust theme happening here, and Söderlund seems to have acknowledged the fact that things have to get worse before they can get better. As many have said before, this is nothing "ground-breaking", but the emotional overload and numerous hooks contained in "Welcome to My Planet" earn it a decent standing in my books. FAVORITE TRACKS: "Divine Terror", "Totalitarian Might".

[Editor's note: this album was released on Hammerheart Records in Europe.]
