REVIEW: Old Manīs Child - Born Of The Flickering Hot Records, 1996
8.5/10
Old Manīs Child - Born Of The Flickering - cover art When you say black metal most non-black metal fans may think of Dimmu Borgir, Cradle of Filth and Emperor but there are several other great bands out there and this is one of them. Old Manīs Child is a four-piece act from Norway that most black metal fans already know of for sure. Their music is very melodic and not as raw as many other bands but without most of the symphonic keyboards of Dimmu Borgir and Cradle of Filth. Although the guitars and drums are mostly played fast there is also a slow acoustic track on the album. The vocals are mostly of the screechy kind but still clear and varied. There are also some female vocals done by Torill Snyen. If you want an album that is more heavy and melodic than it is brutal and satanic than this is something for you. Old Manīs Child is no doubt one of the best black metal bands ever and this is an album that should be in every record collection. Most of the music on this album was written by the main man in the band called Grusom who is a very talented composer to say the least. "Born Of The Flickering" was recorded and mixed November/December anno 1995 at Studi 3, Norway, produced by the band and Tom Sennerud, engineered by Tom and mastered by Vargnatt at Strype Audio. Classical guitar on tracks 5 and 6 was played by Richard Wikstrand.
