One Way Mirror is praised in the band info as the top newcomer band. Admittedly, the lineup doesn’t sound uninteresting: Dirk Verbeuren of Soilwork rules the drumset, while Guillaume Bideau of Mnemic holds the microphone. The other members also have to possess more or less well-known bands.
But is the selftitled debut album able to live up to expectations? The influences of Soilwork and Mnemic are audible, but the songs aren’t as strong as one could expect. The music can be assigned only to metalcore. And - unfortunately - quite stereotype metalcore. Of course, One Way Mirror<7i>’s got nice moments. For example the songs „As you are now“ or „Destination Device“, which are quite catchy . But there are too many fillers, such as „Depived of Confusion“ or the nedless Freddy goes to Hollywood-cover Relax. In general the songs are mostly midtempo-based and sometimes influenced by Emocore.
A positive aspect of the album is the sound. One Way Mirror trusted in Daniel Bergstrand, who has already worked e.g. for Meshugga and In Flames. And this was certainly a good descision. Also the technical aspect of the album is quite good.
It’s not a too bad debut album. But we could expect more of some kind of allstar project. One Way Mirror just haven’t got enough own ideas. Maybe die-hard-metalcore-fans will like the album, but for many others it’s probably a „one play album“.
