Brazil has been producing brutal
death metal bands in the American style for a long time now but there are only
a few of them who have made it out on the world market so far. Ophiolatry is
perhaps not one of the most well-known of these bands but they have
nevertheless been picked up by Gene Palubicki (ex-Angel Corpse) and his Evil
Vengeance Records. Gene apparently still knows his way around extreme metal
because Ophiolatry perform technically precise, ultimately brutal and very
intense US death metal that should appeal to many people. Some of you may have
heard them on Relapse's "Brazilian Assault" compilation a couple of years
ago. Ophiolatry shows that there is still a quality death metal scene in
Brazil. Even though they've got almost everything you can demand from a
brutal death metal band and even though they have declared war against the
Christian god they fail on the most important spot - to create something
unique that the world has not yet heard. There are some nice intricate riffing
on this disc and also some guitar solos but if you are not a huge fan of
brutal death metal you will probably not find Ophiolatry that exciting which
is a shame because they certainly have the skills to reach higher than this.
The production was done by Tchello Martins at DaTribo Studios and it is not
entirely perfect. However, it gives the music a somewhat rough edge that I
really enjoy. More than decent but unfortunately not very original.
Recommended to fans of intense death metal and I promise you that there are no
slowing down on this disc.
