REVIEW: Origin - Origin Relapse Records, 2000
9.5/10
Origin - Origin - cover art Origin is pure aggression through a sonic assault of the senses. The album and the band “Origin” completely annihilate most bands/music of today. They push the extreme envelope with their first self titled LP. Origin drives the adrenaline through your veins while they crush your head with their immense sound. “Disease Called man” is brutal death metal in its heaviest form. It’s also the first song I heard from Origin. I was instantly impressed by their guitar hooks, and the exploding drumming of John Longstreth. Each song is extremely fast, fucking brutal, they just don’t let up. Only Suffocation’s “Human Waste” compares to Origin’s massive sound. John Longstreth is a drumming god. He cripples you with his grinding blast beats. This guy owns you. There’s no denying that he is one of the top death/grind drummers around. This band is technical in their delivery, and the three vocals attack rips you apart. While listening to songs like “Vomit you Out”, “Lethal Manipulation (The Bonecrusher Chronicles)”, “Manimal Instincts” you can’t help but feel like you’re being attacked from all directions. “Disease Called Man” is without a doubt the highlight from the album. It’s absolutely pummeling, courtesy of Mr. Longstreth’s stellar drum work. Now unless you only listen to unrelenting crushing music, this LP may take a few listens to get through. At times you may get lost during the songs, because they are complex, or you can’t take anymore cranium haemorrhaging. It can be a lot to take in. This could be considered a downfall of their's. I don’t think so. Origin destroys, and don’t care to take you on a rhythmic journey. They don’t fuck around and seem happy to turn your head to mush.
