REVIEW: Osh - Red Universe Self-financed, 2002
6.5/10
Osh - Red Universe - cover art The German band Osh has been around since the early 90's but in the early days they only played for the fun of it like most other bands. When you are 15 years old you don't take things that seriously but today Osh want to create music for the world market. Even though I have listened to this cd several times I still find it hard to describe what it is that comes from the speakers. The band themselves have labeled their music as "progressive grind rock" and that might very well be correct even if the ignorant writer of this review has no idea what it means. What I do know is that this is definitely not a disc that will suit all people. Osh do not follow any rules or standard patterns when it comes to creating music. They do what they feel like and the result is a somewhat chaotic mixture of everything from jazz and death metal to grindcore and progressive rock. The vocals are (surprise, surprise) just as schizophrenic as the music itself. The first couple of songs on this album are quite refreshing and actually make sense but in the end it gets a little bit too much. I really like the ritual drumming and diverse vocals though. Osh will probably either be loved or hated by those who listen to them and if you feel like you have an open mind when it comes to music you might want to check them out because they are certainly one of a kind.
