REVIEW: Overdeth - King Arthurs Final Battle Camelot Records, 2004
6.5/10
Overdeth - King Arthurs Final Battle - cover art With song titles such as "The Hymns Of King Arthur" and "Days Of Piracy" band names like Kamelot and Running Wild suddenly come to mind. This Swedish band called Overdeth offer little more than nothing when it comes to information about themselves at their website which makes it a bit difficult for me to introduce them to you. They do however hail from Växjö in the south of Sweden and performed at a local metal festival last year (2003). Musically this is one of the strangest recordings I have heard in a while. Inspiration seems to have come from traditional heavy and thrash metal which many of us have grown up with. However, the songs are very peculiar in their structure and it is hard to get a grip on what Overdeth is trying to achieve. To me they seem to be a band made up of skilled instrumentalists who don't really know where they are going. They have some interesting things going on here and there but they interrupt themselves way too often and end up repeating the same patterns over and over again. Luckily the songs are short though which means that you don't get bored. I can't really find myself at peace with the vocalist who more or less speaks in a weird unusual voice throughout most of the recording. Overdeth is a band that you need to experience before making up your mind. It's hard to take them seriously but they are something out of the ordinary and will certainly gain a substantial fan base.
