REVIEW: Overnoise - Lethal Ways To Hells Kitchen Doors Throne Records, 2003
8/10
Overnoise - Lethal Ways To Hells Kitchen Doors - cover art One day I was surfing the "net" and ventured into a chat room. The topic that was being discussed if I can remember correctly was something about "heavy, badass" bands like Slipknot. I was about to leave since I prefer talking about extreme bands, but I noticed someone in there who was bashing the people who were praising the nu-metal shit. So I started a conversation with him (Toni), and we talked about grind music, the kids eventually all left the room. It turns out that Toni lives in Spain, spoke little English, and played guitar in a hardcore grind band named Overnoise. He explained to me that they were very hard and harsh. At that time his band Overnoise was going to record their first album, and he offered to send it to me here in Canada. Of course I accepted. We kept in contact and a couple months later I received "Lethal Ways To Hell's Kitchen Doors". Now this wasn't the mastered copy, just the demo. So I slapped it into my CD player, played it at full volume, and was blown away. The recording is fucking raw. The vocals were grunted / screamed like I have never heard before. I mean the singer must have ripped his throat open to expel the venom, which is his voice. The lyrics are vomited both in Spanish, and English, which from what I've been told are very political (I wasn't given the lyrics). This band is talented, and storms a level of noise that sounds fresh to the world of grind, while staying true to old school hyper grind. The drummer is concise and very brutal, while the bass bounces around the ear splitting guitars. The mastered version of "Lethal Ways To Hell's Kitchen Doors" is set to be released in October 2003. I think that it would have been cool if the band released the album the way I've heard it, but at the same time, the mastered version sounds even more intense. These guys are to be taken seriously!! If you get a chance to see Overnoise live, then go and get your ass kicked. Then say hi to Toni for me!! Oh the album cover is very cool too. There is an Overnoise mp3 that you can be downloaded at: http://www.thronerecords.com/releases.htm.
