REVIEW: Ozzy Osbourne - Down To Earth Epic Records, 2001
8/10
Ozzy Osbourne - Down To Earth - cover art "I'm not that kind of person, you think I am. I'm not the Anti-Christ, or the Iron Main". That's the first lines of the opening track of the new Ozzy Osbourne album. The 52 year old living legend wants to make it perfectly clear that he is an ordinary person just like you an me. For those of you who have seen the old Black Sabbath vocalist in real life lately the term "living" might seem to be a slight exaggeration but his voice is still alive and well. The music Ozzy left completely up to his fellow band members this time - Zakk Wylde, Robert Trujillo and Mike Bordin have all put their traces on this album. Unfortunately the sonds themselves are rather simple and simetimes even boring with some outstanding exceptions like the first two and the last two tracks. Luckily the album still maintains a high quality thanks to the vocals from the man himself. No-one has ever sounded the way he does and this makes him the kind of unique person he is today. Even though he can hardly take care of himself these days, which is incredibly sad, he still knows how to sing. However he doesn't sound very good in the ballads and too little metal is my conclusion of "Down To Earth". Since it is Ozzy and since the album is released on SOny it will still be among the best selling metal albums of the year. It is of course very good, just not THE best.
