Paganizer is a Swedish death metal band who have been abusing
their instruments since 1998 when the band was formed out of the ashes of two
other bands called Terminal Grip and Genital Grinder. If you had a bad
experience when listening to the Grave comeback album then Paganizer is your
cure. This is straight-forward Swedish death metal in the old vein with varied
riffing, brutal vocals and a production from hell courtesy of Mieszko
Talarzcyk of Nasum and Dan Swanö. The guitarist of Paganizer actually has
a side project together with Swanö as well called Another Life which is
in the same vein as Nightingale and Katatonia. After having spent some time
with the labels Psychic Scream Entertainment from Malaysia and Forever
Underground Records from the US these guys have now signed with Dave Rotten's
(Repulse Records, Avulsed) new label Xtreem Music which is quickly growing to
become one of the leading forces in the extreme metal world. While not being
overly technical this album doesn't get boring either since there is both
frequent tempo changes and varied riffs in each and every song. On the other
hand there is nothing exceptional about it either. However, you can't demand
that every band should come up with something new and original. Paganizer have
produced a decent album that should please all of you who liked the first wave
of Swedish death metal when bands like Grave, Unleashed and Entombed were
taking their first steps. Jörgen Sandström of Entombed also
contributed with some death growls for this album since Dan Swanö hadn't
used his death voice in several years. It is quite unsual for a death metal
band to use native lyrics but Paganizer have done so in one of the tracks
entitled "Du Vaknar Som Död" (You Wake Up As Dead) which is actully one
of the strongest songs. Stand-out tracks: "Bleed Unto Me", "Du Vaknar Som
Död".
