REVIEW: Pain Of Salvation - Remedy Lane Inside Out Music, 2002
8/10
Pain Of Salvation - Remedy Lane - cover art Inside Out Music is probably the most important label when it comes to progressive metal and symphonic rock at the moment. The label rarely signs any other kind of bands and since the American office was formed by the former Dream Theater manager Jim Pitulski this is likely what they want to focus on in the future as well. The Swedish band Pain of Salvation is one of the veterans on the label and have been around since 1984 when the band was formed under the name Reality. Since then they have become one of the biggest metal exports to come out of Sweden during the 1990's. Pain Of Salvation is very different from most other progressive metal bands in their approach. They do of course have the usual trademarks like very technical and chaotic moments, a mellow atmosphere and a very good vocalist. The vocals do vary a lot though from the usual hard rock singing to some kind of gothic wailing and spoken words. This is the only problem I have with this album to since they sometimes sound really good but when the vocalist tries to sound strange it also sounds very strange... If you like progressive metal or gothic rock and want to listen to something out of the ordinary Pain of Salvation would be a natural choice.
