REVIEW: Pantera - Far Beyond Driven Eastwest Records, 1994
9.5/10
Pantera - Far Beyond Driven - cover art A very nice, very aggressive and extremely fast metal album as usual from the furious five Americans of Pantera. Highly technical and very melodic guitars are accompanied by heavy pounding bass and drums. The vocals sound a little like death metal vocals but they are perhaps a little softer. This is absolutely one of the best heavy albums of 1994 and if you like this heavy American style and bands like Sepultura (although they are from Brazil...) and Deftones then this is probably something for you. Faster and more aggressive metal than this is hard to find if you still want to maintain the high quality and the melodic touch. The album was produced, engineered and mixed by Terry Date and Vinnie Paul together with the band. Except for Pantera produced material the record also includes a pretty good cover version of Black Sabbath's "Planet Caravan". Pure raw energy and aggression with melody!
