Pantheïst was formed in the year 2000
as a solo project in Antwerp, Belgium, by a man named Kostas who is already
known by many of you as a reviewer at Doom-metal.com, a website dedicated to
doom metal exclusively (well, who could have guessed...). Today the project
has developed into a real four-piece band and they have signed a two album
deal with the Finnish label Firebox Records, a force soon to be reckoned with
on the doom metal scene. Five songs over the course of close to 60 minutes can
not be anything but doom metal, right? Well, it could have been but Pantheïst
is all about slow, throbbing, mournful and symphonic music. No joy, no
happiness, no light beyond the dark horizon. As the rain drips down the
window, the tears slowly find their way down your cheek and only despair is
left to fill the void in your soul, then the music of Pantheïst will be the
perfect companion to follow you down the path of darkness. I am not suicidal
or unhappy in any way but I am still able to enjoy these tunes of sadness and
I truely appreciate the set of emotions delivered through these five tracks. I
am not overly impressed with the album, nor do these guys bring the world
anything new, but if you are into funereal doom metal I would strongly
recommend you to check them out. Actually, the overall atmosphere reminds me a
little of the Australian band Avrigus but with less darkwave influences and
the female vocals replaced with death grunts and clean male vocals. At times
Pantheïst almost sound ritualistic. Death is near, the ritual has begun, are
you ready to submit to the unknown and embrace the
darkness?
