Paragon is a German metal band that was formed
in 1990 and they have actually already released three full-length albums
although they have probably gone unnoticed by most of the metal crowds because
of lack of promotion on behalf of their labels. This is a pity because they
are actually a very good band. Their last album "Steelbound" received some
amazing reviews from the German media (9,5 of ten points in Rock Hard
Magazine, 9,5 points of ten in Metal Heart Magazine, 11 of 12 points in Heavy
Oder Was?! Magazine) and even though I wouldn't want to put them that high on
my list they still offer a very nice listen. Their brand of power metal is
very close to Judas Priest but they have a much more aggressive edge with
razor sharp riffs and powerful raw vocals that should please most fans of
classic heavy metal (no Euro-power here). This band is hungry and wants to
show the world what metal sounds like which you can't really say about the
Judas Priest of today who are just giving the audience what they have come to
expect and nothing more. This album is a wonderful example of what metal can
sound like when you put your mind, soul and body to it. Paragon came as a
surprise to me since I have not heard anything at all from them before but I
sure hope that this is not the last I hear from them. The only thing that
could have been done slightly better is the production but that is almost
always a question of money. Stand-out tracks: "Abducted", "Law Of The
Blade" and the nice Saxon cover "To Hell And Back
Again".
