REVIEW: Perversity - In The Garment Of Lust Perennial Quest Records, 2003
9.5/10
Perversity - In The Garment Of Lust - cover art “In the Garment of Lust” is Perversity’s first full-length LP. What a hell of an album it is too. These guys don’t fuck around. Playing crushing Death/grind in the same vein as Suffocation. The drummer is absolutely brutal. What stands out for me is the creative mind-altering play of MARTIN KUKOL, their bass player. His bass rumbles out rhythm like I’ve never heard in Death or grind before. The dueling guitars add the technical arrangements, while the keyboards are a nice relief. These guys are tight as a band. The whole album is a highlight, as Perversity mixes in everything they can think of. For some reason the soloing makes me think of Sepultura, while (early) Cryptopsy comes to mind with the way the songs break out into spastic jazz rhythms. It took me a few listens to grasp all of Perversity’s intense sound; they make you think. I mean the music crushes your senses, until you finally submit. “In the Garment of Lust” stayed in my stereo for a long time, and is on regular rotation. I recommend Perversity’s “In the Garment of Lust” to anyone who listens to: Suffocation, Cryptopsy, Napalm Death, Repulsion, At the Gates. . . Perversity is a complex band from Slovakia, who hopefully one day will tour over here to Canada.
