Perzonal War is a band that I am not very familiar with despite the fact that they have been around since 1996 and already have three albums out prior to this one. I have apparently missed out on something here. "Faces" should suitably be places in the thrash metal genre but that is not the whole truth. The vocalist Matthias Zimmer has a very powerful voice which at times remind a lot of no other than James Hetfield although he has a different way of singing which is slightly more laidback and less aggressive in general. The music itself does not show too many similarities with Metallica's music, not the earlier thrash metal nor the newer rock oriented material. Instead there is a lot of Annihilator and Anthrax found in the thrashier parts of the songs. The calmer sections are often accompanied by decent guitar solos and clean vocals that make my thoughts wander off to a more modern rock / metal band such as Creed but mixed with that James Hetfield voice it almost sounds like something that Amorphis could have written recently. As you may realize by now Perzonal War have found their own style with influences from several different genres and "Faces" is a very strong and modern sounding thrash metal album which should put them on the European metal map for good. If you are lucky enough to get your hands on the limited edition of it you will also get two bonus tracks. If you fancy bands such as Rage, Nevermore, Annihilator and Metallica then Perzonal War could definitely be something for you. They are one of the more original acts the genre has to offer today and with stronger song writing they will soon reach the top.
