Pickup are from Finland and this is their first released demo, although they exist since a long time ago. As a first general remark I would say they sound like Entombed with a bit of Dismember and Pantera. They have nice main ideas, which are familiar to an average fan since they have been played well by the above bands. This also becomes a main disadvantage because they become boring by repeating them on and on. The demo begins with "Rising From The Ashes" with the Entombed / dirty Black Sabbath melodies, the vocals are coarse (death metal style), but after the first seconds everything becomes predictable. With a promising aggressive rhythm begins also "The Clensing" but the continuation is not so promising. In the middle there is a short guitar solo, which could have been more complicated. "Restrained… To A State Of Hate" is the most boring song of the demo. Again the good old dirty Black Sabbath melodies are heard in "Damaged". I can imagine Pickup excite the audience at concerts by making endless headbanging. The compositions are well constructed and the musicians have abilities, no doubt about it, but they must escape from the well known and repeated patterns, by creating some innovations of their own.
